HORSE PORTRAIT FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Horse Portrait Worth Paying For?

People spend mony on all kinds of things,  although Horse portrait photography is certainly not essential, it can be valuable for many different reasons.

As a photographer trying to sell my services of course I will say its worth paying for. However, the the value in relation to cost is an individual choice which i why i offer different prices in relation to different needs and desires.

Where Do you Take Horse Portraits?

Horse portrait photography shoots can take place in all kinds of places and locations.

We have a guide to some locations that work well for horse portrait shoots which can be downloaded HERE

How do I arrange or book a Horse Portrait?

The most effective way to arrange a horse portrait photography shoot is to email fletcher@k2photographic.com or call 07838178551  This will enable us to establish the type of shoot you want, together with ideas in relation to locations, dates and times.

Horse portrait photography shoots can also be purchased via our online shop and then I will contact you to arrange the logistics that suit you.

What if my horse won’t stand still or is naughty?

It is a good idea to brush up on your ground work prior to the shoot, if your horse can stand still or in position for a few seconds, the images we take together will improve greatly, but we also understand that horses can get bored, so we can work together and find solutions to this. We can also take action shots too, so if you have an idea just ask and we will will help you get the images you want.

How should I prepare my horse?

Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll provide a separate information sheet about preparing for your horse portrait shoot.

In brief, we suggest you execrise your horse prior to arriving for your shoot. It is often a good idea to brush your horse prior to the shoot too.

What Should I Wear For My Horse Portrait Shoot?

This is a good question, but it also has many answers as we are all individuals and have different tastes. Moreover it depends on time of year and location. I think the most important aspect is to wear what you feel comfortable in, both in terms of look and feel.

Here are a few things to consider.

What kind of mood and look are you wanting? Do you want images in your best riding gear or a specific dress? These types of images would promote and provide formal look and feel and we can work together to achieve this look.

You may prefer a far more casual, for example wearing jeans and favourite top. There are some colours that look really good in photography such as reds and purples. Depending on location and time of year certain colours look stunning in the autumn, but as a general rule of thumb, strong distracting patterns and really heave branding are best avoided.

I can provide further assistance when you make a booking and get a feel for the type of images you are wanting.

How many photos will you take?

This depends on the type of horse portrait you have booked, but regardless of the time, you will always have enough images to choose from.

Will I receive all of the photos you take?

The honest answer is no, but please allow me to explain why.

Firstly it depends on the type of horse portrait you have booked.

After the shoot I back up all of the images I have taken and then look through them for sharpness and composition, so that you don't have to look through loads and loads of images.

You get to see only the best images which makes choosing the images you want a little harder.

Why do I do this? If I am not happy with an image, you probably wont be either.

What are additional Digital Image Packs?

As a photographer providing good customer service is paramount to what I do and from the feedback I received, people were requesting Hi Res Digital Images and not traditional prints. In 2020  I started offering Digital Image Packs that are suitable for printing (which include print liecence) and people's digital needs

Traditional prints are how professional photographers earn a living, so the digital Packs I provide aim to provide a win win sittuation for you as a customer and me as a photographer and all Digital Image packs are custom edited using photoshop to provide high resolution images for printing.

If you purchase digital Image Packs, i would reccommend using a profession print services and use their printing profile service, this will ensure you get the best prints possible. different labs use different printing profiles, so it is not feasable for me to provide this service unless you provide me with a print profile of the lab you are using.

However, you can still purchase traditional prints from K2photographic (For full information please use the Find Out More Tab)

Photography Products Are Often Expensive, How Much Do You Charge & What Types Of Products Do You Offer?

Photography products can be expensive, but that does not mean they are unafordable. I provide a range of products from simple to bespoke. However, unlike some photographers, I don't use in person sales. I want clients to pick the images and products they like and can afford, if I try and sell you what you don't need or cannot really afford, the chances of you recommending me and the services I provide will probably be zero.

I provide Hi Resolution Digital Image packs that can help keep the cost of images very afordable, or I can provide bespoke wall art depending on what you desire. All of my prices are transparrent and their are now hidden extras or up selling, you can choose the images you like from the comfort of your own home via our online Proofing Gallery.

You will find information on my current Products & Prices on the Menu Tab.

If you have any questions in relation to products or if I can be of assistance in any way, please contact me.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my photoshoot?

The weather is one of those unpredictable things in the UK.

Generally, if it is raining or windy your images could end up not looking so good and for safety reasons it is better to be safe than sorry.

We keep a close eye on the weather and will contact you the day before the shoot if we have concerns about the weather conditions.

You may decide to postpone the shoot for another time, or we may have to cancel the shoot. We certainly do not cancel shoots at a whim, but we always put safety first. However, if we do have to cancel the shoot, we will work with you to find the next available date and time that is suitable.

Where will my horse Portrait shoot take place?

Our equine and dog portrait shoots take place within a 40 mile radius of Leeds, or where you are located.

We love planning the finer details of our shoots with you and we’re always open to ideas.

We’re very happy to travel for shoots and include up to 40 miles travel (from WF3) in our session fees. Beyond this, mileage is charged at 45p/mile. If several of you would like a session, you’re welcome to split the travel costs.

You use flash will this scare my horse?

We combine flash and ambient light to create equine portraits that can add impact and dimension to our images. We have found that most horses are fine with flash, even very sensitive ones. We always take things slowly, show and introduce your horse to our equipment and test the flash a few times to make sure they’re acclimatised before we start the shoot.

What if I own more than one horse?

All of our Portraits include up to two horses or dogs, excluding the Prime session. Please be aware of the duration of the shoot you have booked in relation to the number of horses or dogs you want photographed.

If you would like more than two horses or dogs photographed at the same time, please contact us to discuss your options.

How long does it take before images can be viewd & selected?

Images are ready to be viewd and selected approximately one week after the shoot.  For prints and products, the waiting time is  two to three weeks.
